Youth Advisory Board Developed in Centerville

Look around the small community of Centerville and you’ll see a success story in the making.

According to Jared Hybertson, the community’s Economic Development Coordinator, much of the progress and innovation happening in Centerville was sparked by RuralX.

“Almost everything we’ve done in the past two years goes back to RuralX,” he says. “It’s an event that really re-energizes us and makes us think outside the box.”

Here are just a few of the things Centerville has been doing to improve and enhance their community:

After being encouraged by youth engagement stories at RuralX, the community is in the process of setting up a Youth Advisory Board that reports to the Centerville Development Corporation.

Tripp Community Engages in Empower! Dakota Community Coaching

What a difference a few great connections can make. After attending RuralX17 last July just to “get some ideas,” Bryan and Shawn Bietz used what they learned to formed the Tripp Action Group. Since then, the entire Tripp community has made significant strides in bringing people together to help make their home a better place to live. The latest achievement includes applying for and receiving a $10,000 Community Innovation Grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation. This grant will be used to help fund a partnership with Dakota Resources and the organization’s Empower! Community Coaching program, which will guide the community through a comprehensive coaching process designed to help empower local people and organizations to lead action. Dakota Rising is a free comprehensive Fellowship experience that seeks out, celebrates and inspires rural entrepreneurs. The 24-month program is designed to provide rural entrepreneurs with the tools, resources, and connections to help them reach their greatest potential.

The program works with entrepreneurs from anywhere in South Dakota, excluding Sioux Falls and Rapid City.

Dakota Resources, the non-profit that organizes the Dakota Rising Fellowship, has a core mission to enrich rural communities and empower rural people. Dakota Resources offers programs that are available to the community and economic development leaders across South Dakota and beyond.
