Citi Community Development is engaged in communities across the country supporting economic development, inclusive finance and housing.  The corporate group works to support underserved individuals and families and seeks collaborative partnerships with organizations like Dakota Resources to help make an impact.

“Citi has had a solid relationship with Dakota Resources for more than ten years and we value their partnership,” explains Ruth Christopherson, Senior Vice President of Citi Community Development. “They are doing great things for our rural communities through our support of Dakota Resources, I have seen firsthand how one organization in a small community can make a difference.”

Ruth attended ruralX as the Citi Community Development sponsor the past two years and is excited about the direction the event is taking.

“The first year was huge, but the second year was when I really saw people come together, sharing ideas and best practices, for the single purpose of strengthening their rural communities” she says. “Seeing Dakota Resources in action really opened my eyes to the importance of connecting people to each other in rural communities. Conversations about what’s working and what’s not working are important.”

Ruth sites OpenX as one of her favorite parts of the ruralX experience, because she likes watching discussions come to life among a diverse group of people.

OpenX is where breakout topics are created “on the fly” by the people attending the event. In the past, many of these topics have evolved into actual projects and events, including rural management training sessions in Wall and Wagner, the Northeast Women’s Business Conference in Aberdeen and a youth-led pop-up shop event in Miller.

“We are proud to support what Dakota Resources is doing in rural communities,” says Ruth.
