This October, the entire Dakota Resources community is coming together to learn, connect and celebrate. Forward thinking entrepreneurs and rural change leaders from across South Dakota will attend The Empower Sessions, featuring dynamic keynote speakers and breakout topics designed to help them build confidence, gain valuable insights and improve their communication skills.

The Dakota Rising Gala on Saturday night is a fun and exciting evening that celebrates the next Dakota Rising Fellows finalists, congratulates the graduates and recognizes rural economic development leaders and the communities they serve.

Registration is required to attend all sessions and events.

This optional session is open to anyone who wants to engage in deeper conversations about some of rural’s biggest challenges, including the BIG THREE: Housing Development, Entrepreneur and Business Development and Leadership Development. These hot topics will be explored by Dakota Resources coaches. Feel free to join in and connect!

Be bold! Be brave! Be heard!

Learn powerful techniques from Michelle Kane, Black Hills PR, f or presenting yourself both in person and online to better share your ideas with confidence and shape your professional reputation. Effective, persuasive communication skills are vital when it come s to gathering your crowd and getting people to say “yes.” Your online and in person brand is so powerful that not only does it impact others, but the message you convey through it also impacts how you perceive yourself! This interactive session will cover how and where to focus your effects when presenting ideas or requests to potential funders, clients or partners. Learn tips on weaving social media into your research and online presence while framing your message and then delivering with confidence.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, overworked and overdue, stop the madness. Learn smart ways to cut out unnecessary distractions, how to prioritize and why it’s important to carve out time for yourself. This session is being led by John Meyer, the CEO of Lemonly, who knows a thing or two about time management.

2:30 pm Empower Panel: How to lead a mix of generations
Different values. Different experiences. Different attitudes and motivations. No wonder it’s sometimes hard to work as a team. By understanding and embracing the differences between the Baby Boomers, Generation X and the Millenials, effective leaders can learn how to leverage the strengths of each generation for the good of everyone. Hosted by John Beranek, Dakota Resources Community Coach.

Keynote Paul TenHaken: How to be a leader and still lead a life
Paul TenHaken is the co-founder of ClickRain, a Sioux Falls digital marketing company that grew into a Fortune 5000 company known for their innovative culture and tremendous growth. In addition to being a passionate entrepreneur, Paul is also a huge community advocate, serving on dozens of boards and volunteering for numerous organizations.
