Month Nine | Tripp asks, “What’s Next?”

Blog, News & Events on April 22nd. Comments Off on Month Nine | Tripp asks, “What’s Next?”

Nine months after being inspired by ruralX, what’s next for the small community of Tripp?

“We have a lot of ideas and needs in Tripp right now,” says Shawn Bietz, who founded the Tripp Action Group after attending ruralX along with her husband, Bryan. “We just need to figure out our priorities and keep moving forward.”

Shawn says the biggest challenge after several successful community events is just keeping the momentum going and finding people to take the lead on projects.

“Despite the cold weather, we had a huge turn-out for our Easter egg hunt and school backpack program. It is great to see so many families get involved. Our next task is to kick-off something fun and new so that people stay interested and connected.”

Most of the activities planned by TAG are designed to bring families together, provide entertainment or to help … Read More »

Month Seven | Tripp partners with SDSU and Wellmark

Blog, News & Events on February 21st. Comments Off on Month Seven | Tripp partners with SDSU and Wellmark

Last July, Shawn and Bryan Bietz of Tripp attended the Dakota Resources RuralX event as a way to help find new resources and information about rural economic and community development. The couple returned to Tripp fueled by motivation, which has led to numerous projects, events and connections with valuable outside resources.

“It’s amazing how one connection leads to another,” says Shawn. “Someone reaches out that is connected to someone else, and then things just fall together. Increased communication and new outlets for getting people involved have really brought some positives to our community. Those are things that were reinforced at RuralX as well.”

A few of the most recent positives in Tripp include involvement with the Healthy Hometown initiative sponsored by Wellmark and an Active Transportation Grant, which was awarded to Tripp for 2018.

“We were led to apply for the Active Transportation … Read More »

Month five: Tripp celebrates the holidays!

Blog, News & Events on December 21st. Comments Off on Month five: Tripp celebrates the holidays!

Twenty parade entries. A live nativity show. A community play, horse drawn wagon rides and a fantastic “Hometown Holiday” turn-out. All of these things were the culmination of people coming together in Tripp to bring new energy, new ideas and new growth to their rural community.

Five months ago, Bryan and Shawn Bietz launched The Tripp Action Group (TAG) after being inspired at RuralX17. Since then, the group has successfully organized a kickball tournament/fundraiser, a yard clean-up project, a grocery delivery service and its first annual Hometown Holiday celebration.

After a busy November planning the December 10th event, organizers were excited about all the people who took part in the day. Volunteers of every age stepped up to help, and people came forward to lead projects that most interested them. This is the beauty and the blessing of living in small community! … Read More »

Month three: Tripp kicks it out of the park!

Blog, News & Events on October 17th. Comments Off on Month three: Tripp kicks it out of the park!

The Tripp Action Group (TAG) formed after RuralX as a way to help bring the community together and enhance the quality of life in Tripp. Since then, the group—informally led by Bryan and Shawn Bietz–has been busy with a list of community events and projects that continues to grow. We are following the group over the next year with updates in the Rural Xchange. Here are the highlights since your last issue:

A kickball tournament/fundraiser was held September 29 and raised over $1100 not including tee shirt sales.
A home was nominated for a volunteer clean-up project and a group of ambitious volunteers (including several youth) came together on October 15 to do a little yard makeover. The results are awesome (see photos below)!
There is a community can collection being done as an additional TAG fundraiser.
Community members are coming together to … Read More »
