Three years of process, development and improvement was recognized last Tuesday evening in the Mueller Center Gymnasium. The Hot Springs Community Engagement hosted an annual report on community projects and initiatives, with almost 100 people in attendance

In May of 2015, Hot Springs partnered with Dakota Resources community coach, Kristi Wagner, and launched the community engagement process with the purpose of, “unifying Hot Springs for a sustainable future.”
For the rest of 2015 was filled with listening sessions. In total, over 700 people participated. In January of 2016 five key initiatives were born: housing, business and economic development, health and wellness, recreation and tourism.

SHCRI announces three options
HOT SPRINGS – Following a Community Engagement Gathering on Jan. 24, 2016, and after months of research and clarifying the need for a Recreation Center in Hot Springs, the Southern Hills Community Recreation Initiative (SHCRI) recently announced that they have three viable options, which were attained through public input.
Partnering with Southern Hills Economic Development Corporation (SHEDCO), a community ice-cream social was held last month on Sept. 24 to determine which option was best for Hot Springs.
The three options include:
1. Build onto the Mueller Center, which encompasses building a second gymnasium, walking track, an’ L’ shaped lap pool with diving boards. Becoming a Community Leader
They call him “The Instigator.”
It’s a title Brian Spitzer never imagined for himself, but after four years as a Resource Team member with Dakota Rising, he is proud to be a positive influence on his hometown of Hot Springs.
“I’ll admit I was skeptical at first,” he says. “It was hard to fathom how it would all work. As time went on it became apparent that Dakota Resources DOES work. It isn’t just a bunch of people talking, it is a bunch of people connecting and making things happen.”
