Sioux Falls Nonprofits Celebrate Grant Awards

Ten Sioux Falls area nonprofits were recent recipients of Community Innovation Grants (CIG) and South Dakota Fund (SDF) grants awarded through the South Dakota Community Foundation. The  grant awards total $79,000.

The SDCF offers Community Innovation Grants through their partnership with the Bush Foundation. The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) received forty-three applications for its second round of 2017 Community Innovation Grants. Fourteen nonprofits were selected to receive awards.  Six of those were either from the Sioux Falls area or offering services in Sioux Falls.

“The SDCF is pleased to partner with these Southeast area nonprofits as they work to address community needs,” says Ginger Niemann, SDCF program officer. “We look forward to working with them as they meet the challenges they identified.”

“My first Home Address meeting, I found myself sitting in a circle looking at a rock,” laughs Cathy Evans, Executive Director of the Lemmon Housing Authority.

“I was very intimidated and uncomfortable. I am a back row, last chair kind of person. So sitting in a circle talking to a group was hard. But, by the third meeting I was totally comfortable. Now I conduct all my own meetings in a circle!”

Cathy began her journey with Home Address in 2012, and while she admits to initial fears, she now realizes that being pushed out of her comfort zone was a path to her personal growth.
