Dakota Resources Honors De Smet Leader with Mentorship Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Renner, SD—Rita Anderson, Executive Director of the De Smet Economic Development Corporation, was recently honored with the Economic Development Professional Mentor Award by Dakota Resources, a community and economic development organization dedicated to helping rural communities thrive.
Anderson’s role as an economic development mentor for the Dakota Resources Learning Network provides valuable insight, inspiration and positive thinking for dozens of rural economic development leaders involved with the network across the state. Her award was presented at the Empower Sessions Gala, an annual celebration recognizing rural leaders, innovative rural communities, rural entrepreneurs and economic development professionals.
The Gala capped off two days of Dakota Resources Empower Sessions, which brings rural shapers together from across the region to experience valuable learning workshops, guest speakers, social networking, entrepreneurial success stories and more.
Anderson is a familiar face not only at Empower Sessions, but at nearly any rural economic or community development event held in the state of South Dakota.
“People in the economic development community cannot say enough good things about Rita, her enthusiasm and passion for economic development is contagious,” says Mike Knutson, Dakota Resources Learning Network Orchestrator and Community Coach. “We are proud that she has chosen to come alongside Dakota Resources to help rural communities thrive. She is truly a beacon of light and is well-deserving of this award.”
The evening also honored Dr. Aelred J. Kurtenbach, Co-Founder of Daktronics in Brookings, with the Dakota Rising Fellow Mentor Award, graduates of the final Dakota Rising Fellowship, and the Custer Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC) with the Innovative Rural Community Prize.
