Dr. Kurtenbach has been a mentor to the Dakota Rising Fellows since Dakota Rising was established to help rural entrepreneurs in 2009,  and was a member of the program’s original design team. He is a highly respected businessman who co-founded one of the world’s largest suppliers of electronic signs. His keen business sense, valuable insight, impactful community involvement and leadership are an incredible example to Dakota Rising Fellows. Over the years Dr. Kurtenbach and Daktronics have been recognized with numerous awards for entrepreneurship and quality, and his extensive list of accomplishments, appointments and leadership positions bring a wealth of knowledge to the Dakota Rising program.

“We are extremely fortunate that Dr. Kurtenbach believes in the value of entrepreneurship and has been a strong advocate of the Dakota Rising Fellowship over the years,” says Kristi Wagner, Connector and Senior Community Coach of Dakota Resources. “Dr. Kurtenbach embodies the spirit of rural entrepreneurship and is someone we are proud to honor as a mentor. We cannot speak highly enough of his kind and generous spirit and the deep level of support he gives the Dakota Rising program.”

The award was presented to Dr. Kurtenbach at the Empower Sessions Gala, an annual celebration recognizing rural leaders, innovative rural communities, rural entrepreneurs, economic development professionals and community mentors. The Gala capped off two days of Dakota Resources Empower Sessions, which brought rural shapers together from across the region to experience valuable learning workshops, guest speakers, social networking, entrepreneurial success stories and more.
